Installation / Setup Errors
-
Issue #1
Google Play Protect: App blocked to protect your device
This is because your device is protected by Google Play Protect and it's blocking the app because this
app needs permission to read SMS. But this permission is required to analyze your SMS.
Solution
Here are the steps to pause Google Play Protect so you can install the APK (like "Smart
Import" app)
without getting blocked:
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap on your profile icon (top-right corner).
- Tap Play Protect.
- Tap the Settings icon (⚙️ top-right).
- Turn off:
- Scan apps with Play Protect
- Improve harmful app detection (optional)
- Confirm if prompted with “Turn off” / "Pause" (Recommended).
-
Issue #2
App was denied access to SMS
You see this message because the "Smart Import" app requires permission to read your SMS messages
to function properly. This is a necessary permission for the app to automatically detect and import
your financial SMS messages. However, starting from Android 11, Google has restricted this permission
for new apps, so you need to manually grant it.
Solution
Allow restricted settings
- On your Android device, open the Settings app.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap the app that you want to turn on a restricted setting for.
- Tip: If you can't find it, first tap See all apps or App info.
- Tap More and then Allow restricted settings.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
📈 Analyze Module Overview
The Analyze section provides powerful visual insights into your financial data. You can find it
in the sidebar under Analyze with three key submenus:
📊 Financial Chart
This page showcases your monthly categorized breakdown of both expenses and incomes. It
includes three major charts:
- Expenses Bar Chart (Top): Compares your current month’s expenses category-wise (in
red) against the previous month’s expenses (in pink).
- Incomes Bar Chart (Bottom Left): Displays the source-wise income comparison between
the current and previous month using teal and light teal bars respectively.
- Income vs Expense Line Chart (Bottom Right): Shows the monthly trend over time,
highlighting how your income and expenses have fluctuated across each month (blue for
income, pink for expense).
These visualizations help identify spending trends, income spikes, and overall cash flow
behavior.
📅 Weekly Chart
This section displays your weekly financial activity using a line chart:
- X-axis: Represents the days of the selected week.
- Y-axis: Represents the monetary value.
- Income (blue line) vs Expense (red line): Quickly spot when you're earning
more than you're spending—or vice versa.
You can select different weeks using the calendar dropdown on the top right.
🧠 Financial Summary
This section provides a detailed textual analysis of your financial health based on
available records:
- Summary Block: Shows total income, expenses, and savings with their respective
averages.
- Patterns and Insights: Highlights spending behavior, inconsistent income, and
high-expense categories.
- Practical Tips: Offers advice like budgeting, prioritizing needs, savings strategies,
and frequent reviews.

actionable advice.
This page helps users reflect on their money habits and improve financial stability through clear

Budgets Module
The Budgets module in MoneeWise helps you proactively manage your spending by
setting limits on different expense categories each month. It visually tracks your actual
spending against your set budget and gives you full control over your financial planning.
Budgets Overview
-
The top section shows the budgets for the currently selected month. You can navigate between
months using the Prev and Next buttons along with the
month selector dropdown on the top right.
-
Each category (like Groceries, Housing, Food, etc.) has a progress bar showing:
- The total amount spent.
- The budget limit you’ve set.
- The percentage of the budget consumed so far.
-
If a category has no budget set, you can enter an amount and click Set
Budget to assign a monthly limit.
-
Categories with set budgets also have a Delete icon beside them, allowing
you to remove the budget if needed.
Copy Previous Month's Budget
-
If you have not set any budgets for the current month, the system will display a helpful
alert message with a button:
Copy from [Previous Month].
-
Clicking this button will instantly copy all budget limits from the previous month to the
current one—saving you time and ensuring consistency in monthly planning.
Setting New Budgets
- To set a new budget, simply:
- Enter the desired amount in the input field beside the category name.
- Click the Set Budget button.
- Once a budget is set, the UI dynamically updates with a blue progress bar to show actual vs.
budgeted spending.
Recurring Module
The Recurring module in MoneeWise allows users to schedule financial
transactions that happen systematically—such as regular expenses or recurring incomes. Instead
of manually adding these every time, users can set them up once, and they will be automatically
added to the Records section on the specified schedule.
Use Cases
- Monthly Salary: Automatically add an income record on a fixed date every
month.
- Weekly Subscriptions: Add a recurring expense for weekly payments, such as
streaming services or gym memberships.
- Bi-Weekly Groceries: Automatically log grocery expenses twice a week.
- Loan EMIs: Record monthly loan payments without manually entering them
every time.
Functionality
-
Users can specify:
- Type: Income or Expense
- Category (e.g., Salary, Groceries, Loan EMI)
- Account (from which or to which the transaction applies)
- Amount – Can include mathematical expressions like
5000+300
- Note for any extra context
- Frequency – Choose from daily, weekly, monthly, or custom schedules
- Start Date and optionally End Date
-
Once scheduled, the system will automatically create a corresponding record in the
Records section on the specified date or according to the defined schedule.
-
This helps automate repetitive entries and ensures your financial data remains accurate and
up-to-date with minimal effort.
Benefits
- Saves time by avoiding repetitive data entry
- Ensures important recurring payments (like rent, subscriptions, etc.) are not missed
- Improves accuracy in financial tracking and analysis
Categories Module
The Categories section in MoneeWise allows you to organize your income and
expense records efficiently by assigning them to relevant categories.
System Categories
-
MoneeWise comes with a set of predefined primary categories (e.g.,
Groceries, Salary, Housing, Insurance, etc.).
-
These system-defined categories are essential for maintaining core functionality and
insights; hence, users cannot edit or delete them.
User-Created Categories
-
Users can create their own custom categories to better tailor the platform to their unique
financial tracking needs.
-
These custom categories can be assigned as either Income or
Expense types.
-
Editable and Deletable: User-created categories can be edited or removed at
any time as per user preferences.
-
Private: Any category created by a user is private to their account and
will not be visible to other users on the platform.
Purpose
-
Categories allow for better data organization, reporting, budgeting, and analysis.
-
They are essential for grouping similar transactions and generating accurate financial
insights.
Accounts Module
The Accounts section in MoneeWise allows users to manage and track the balances
across various financial sources such as bank accounts, credit cards, wallets, and more.
Features
-
Add Accounts: Users can add the financial accounts they use, including
Credit Cards, Bank Accounts, UPI Wallets, or any other type of account.
-
Initial Balance: While adding an account, users can specify an
initial amount to set the opening balance.
-
Current Balance: The system automatically calculates and displays the
current balance based on the income and expense records linked to that account.
Transfer Feature
-
A Transfer button allows users to move money from one account to another
(e.g., transferring funds from a Wallet to a Bank Account).
-
These transfer records are logged for accurate account balances but are not included
in financial analysis or insights since they do not represent actual income or
expense.
Purpose
-
Helps users stay aware of how much money they have across different sources in real time.
-
Maintains clear visibility and control over financial distribution and transfers between
accounts.
